Spiritual Warfare Scriptures for when you're under attack

Do you ever feel like you’re fighting a losing battle? In this Devotional, we’ll read Spiritual Warfare Scriptures, learn how to withstand a spiritual attack from the enemy, and win the battle every time!

What is Spiritual Warfare in the Bible?

Going up against the spiritual forces of evil sounds like a plot to a Hollywood movie. Angels and demons battling it out. Arrows flying through the air, and big explosions in the background.

But this isn’t the latest box office hit.

It’s what’s happening around us in the spiritual realm every minute of every day.

In my Bible Study How to Resist the Devil, I wrote about how it’s not acceptable to talk about Satan and his demons in polite society. We pretend he doesn’t exist and go about our business. Because if we talk about the battle between good and evil going on in the heavenly places we can’t see, people will point and laugh at us. Right?

But the truth is… the devil is real. And he is really out to get us!

How do you fight spiritual warfare Biblically?

Christians face a spiritual battle every single day. And if we are living our lives for Jesus the way we are called by God to do, you can bet Satan and his tiny little minions will be there waging a spiritual war in our lives.

Because when we chose to follow Jesus and let the world know it, we are painting a giant bullseye on our foreheads. People will call us crazy. And Satan will attack us.

But that’s okay. God has given us all of the tools we need to defeat our foe and win the war against the forces of darkness.

Our most effective weapon in spiritual warfare is the Word of God, the Bible.

And in this Devotional, we’ll read Spiritual Warfare Scriptures. Each one is meant to help us stay in the fight and win the war.

So, when you’re under attack from the enemy, read these Bible verses and allow God’s Word to guide you as you resist the devil and battle it out in your life.

Powerful Bible Verses about Spiritual Warfare

We’ll start our Bible study with some of the most popular spiritual warfare scriptures. They are a powerful example of God’s grace when we’re under fire.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

                                   Ephesians 6:10 NIV

                                  2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

                                 Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

                                 2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,  making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

                                    Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

                                     Romans 8:38-39 NIV

The Armor of God

The Christian life is like an intricate military operation. And any great soldier knows you don’t walk onto the battlefield without your armory.

In the book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul gives us a vivid description of the Armor of God. Each piece of the armour of God is a part of our.

God’s armor consists of many pieces of equipment. Each one makes up the whole of our spiritual armory. And these weapons of spiritual warfare are a source of strength in the spiritual battles we face every day. With them we can march out onto the battlefield of life with confidence. And take on the war that’s raging around us every day.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

                                 Ephesians 6:13

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

                               Ephesians 6:14-17 ESV

by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,  by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;

                                  2 Corinthians 6:6-8 NKJV

Weapons of Spiritual Warfare Scripture

Each part of the Armor of God is an offensive weapon in our spiritual battle. Meaning it is not only an effective defense but also an even better offense.

Each powerful weapon of warfare in our arsenal can take down the enemy before he has a chance to attack us. And give us assurance of faith knowing God has equipped us for the battle ahead.

These Bible Verses about weapons of spiritual warfare show us how to take the fight to the enemy with a great offense. So, let’s learn about the weapons of our warfare and how to put them to use in our spiritual warfare.

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…

                                  2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ESV

to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

                                      Ephesians 4:12-13 NIV

A stronghold in times of trouble;

God is a righteous judge,
a God who displays his wrath every day.
If he does not relent,
he will sharpen his sword;
he will bend and string his bow.
He has prepared his deadly weapons;
he makes ready his flaming arrows.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

The wicked plots against the righteous
and gnashes his teeth at him,

for he sees that his day is coming.

Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

                               Psalm 64:2-4 New King James Version

The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,

You will not fear the terror of night,

but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

                                 Psalm 91:5-8 NIV

Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?

With God we will gain the victory,
and he will trample down our enemies.

Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;
though lofty, he sees them from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
with your right hand you save me.
The Lord will vindicate me;
your love, Lord, endures forever—
do not abandon the works of your hands.

Bible Verses about Satan

Satan is the father of lies. He’s a ruthless deceiver who will say anything to bring you down. If you’ve ever thought… I’m not good enough, or I can’t do this. Well, that’s the father of lies trying to keep you from God’s perfect plan for your life. And we can’t have that!

I like to think of Satan as Wile E. Coyote from the Looney Tunes cartoon. He’s the one setting the trap and we’re the Roadrunner outsmarting him at every turn.

Yes, I know it’s a silly way of seeing a Christian’s true enemy. But it helps me keep his limited power in perspective. Because here’s the truth Satan doesn’t want you to know… He has no power over you! Jesus has already defeated him, and he knows it!

However, Satan likes to compare himself to Jesus. And he thinks he can be like God. But really, he can only be a cheap imitation of the One True God.

In the following scriptures about Satan, we see the devil likened to a roaring lion. But he is no match for the Lion of Judah. And he aspires to be the Bright Morning Star, but he is simply a fallen angel with a dark future awaiting him.

So, let’s read on and learn more about our adversary, the devil. Then we’ll be able to recognize his spiritual attacks and understand how to defeat this evil foe once and for all!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

                              Ephesians 6:12 NIV

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

                            1 Peter 5:8 NIV

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

                             1 Peter 5:9 ESV

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

                              James 4:7 NIV

and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

                              Revelation 20:10 ESV

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

                              1 John 4:4 NKJV

They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”

                                Revelation 12:11-12 NIV

If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.

                                Mark 3:25-27 NIV

And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

                               Romans 16:20 NKJV

Old Testament Bible Verses about Spiritual Battles

you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their figured stones, destroy all their cast images, and demolish all their high places.

                              Numbers 33:52 New Revised Standard Version

If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the Lord gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God in violation of his covenant, and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky, and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.

                               Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NIV

Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.

                               Proverbs 3:16-18 NIV

                                       Mark 1:23-25 ESV

And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him.  Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

                                      Mark 1:26-27 NKJV

But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
