Everlasting Love Jeremiah 31:3 Devotional

God loves us with an everlasting love! In this Jeremiah 31:3 devotion, we’ll learn how He has loved us from the very beginning of time and continues to love us now.

Let’s face it, sometimes life can be lonely. We’re left to wonder why we feel so unloved and all alone.

But there is someone who loves us! In Jeremiah 31:3 we discover the identity of the One who loves us unconditionally.

What is the message of Jeremiah 31?

 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

                                              Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV

This scripture is about God’s loyal love. It’s His nature to be faithful and loyal to His people.

The Israelites had experienced this everlasting love before. They knew what it was like to walk with the Lord during their time in captivity in Egypt and through the wilderness years.

That’s the meaning of the phrase “the Lord appeared of old”. The Lord is what we would call ancient because He has always existed. And this phrase also means far away because during the time Jeremiah was writing this verse God had hidden Himself from the Israelites, causing them to wonder where He was.

But that didn’t stop the Lord from loving them and watching over them during this time apart.

And we can rest assured God’s love for us is just as loyal and faithful. He will always be there for us because God loves us with an everlasting love.

What is the meaning of Everlasting Love?

As we just learned in Jeremiah 31, God’s love for us is everlasting.

That means, He loved us from the very beginning of time, and He continues to love us now.

The phases, “everlasting love” and “with loving kindness I have drawn you” are parallels that mean no matter what may happen in life, God will continue to love us and keep us close to Him in His loving embrace.

This is the assurance of faith we have in Him and His love for us.

3 Ways God shows His Love

The love of God can be seen in so many ways if we just look for it.

So, let’s read some Bible Verses about God’s Everlasting Love and see three ways God shows His love for us every day.

#1 God loved us so He sent His Son.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

                                                Romans 5:8 NIV

Sin separates people from God.

But God’s love was demonstrated in an unimaginable way when He sent His Son to die for those who were unholy and unrighteous in every way.

This is proof positive of God’s unfailing kindness and love for humanity. That He would send His only Son into a sinful world to save all who would believe from an eternity of separation and torment.

But this love was not only for the people of Jeremiah’s day, it’s for us too!

God’s love and the sacrifice of Jesus continues to save us to this day!

I don’t know anyone else who would even consider sending their child into the world to die for someone else! But I’m so glad God was willing to send His only Son, Jesus to die in our place.

There is no doubt, God definitely loves us with everlasting love!

#2 We are Children of God

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

                                             1 John 3:1 ESV

When we believe Jesus died for our sins, and accept Him as our Savior, we are automatically adopted into the family of God.

As Children of God, we are no longer alone in this world. We have a family to call our own.

And in stark contrast to the very conditional love of the world, our Heavenly Father loves us no matter what we do.

Praise Jesus, God has made us a part of His family! And because of His love, we have the great honor of calling Him our Abba Father or Daddy. (Romans 8:15)

#3 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases

Because we’re human we have a sinful nature. Throughout our lives, we will continue to sin even if we’re saved, and even if we don’t want to. It’s just a part of our nature.

But God doesn’t give up on us. Even when we mess up or walk away from Him, He continues to be faithful and completely loyal to us.

As we already learned the word “everlasting” from Jeremiah 31:3 literally means “loyal”.

And Jeremiah wrote about this loyal love again in this scripture from Lamentations.

 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
  they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

                                             Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV

Because of our sinful nature, we don’t deserve God’s steadfast love and loyalty. But it is in God’s nature to give it to us anyway.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, and He gives us a new opportunity to experience His love each day.

And because of His great faithfulness, we can rest assured His love will never end. He will always show us, everlasting love.

What can separate us from the love of God?

God wants us to know He loves us! He wants us to feel His love surrounding us every day. And He wants to have a close and personal relationship with us.

Whatever may happen in your life, He will love us. And no matter who may come and go from our lives, He will love us.

In fact, this love is so deep, nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Here’s what the Apostle Paul said about it…

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height not depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

                                              Romans 8:38-39 NKJV

God’s love is everlasting. He has always loved us, and He always will. There is nothing that can change that truth or take it away from us.

In this Bible verse from Romans, Paul struggles to find the words to describe just how deep God’s love truly is. And sometimes, we struggle to find God’s love in our lives, especially when times are tough.

Sin once separated us from God. But He promises those of us who are believers, we will never be separated from Him or His love again.

Because of Jesus and His sacrifice, we will always have God’s unfailing, Everlasting Love!

If you’re feeling unloved or struggling to see God’s love in your life, give your life to Jesus and ask Him to save you from your sin. Immediately, God’s everlasting love will be yours forever!
