It’s Christmastime, and the excitement of the season is here! The lights are up, the cookies are baking and the smell of pine trees is in the air. As the song says, it’s the most wonderful time of year!
Like everyone, I’m excited to see family and friends and take a little break from the ordinary day today.
But there is a greater reason to be excited this season…
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!
You can almost see and hear the excitement ringing out as the angels proclaimed these words! But what were they so excited about?
The birth of Jesus! God’s promise fulfilled to give us the Messiah and Chosen One. The angels knew that one day this tiny baby would die on a cross to save us from our sin. So they were praising and glorifying God for His amazing gift to mankind.
The day that each of us understands that Jesus died for us personally and accept Him as our Savior is cause for a huge celebration! And the Bible says that the angels are celebrating the victory of Jesus every time someone is saved.
Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
Also, the angels knew that with the gift of Jesus we have peace on earth from the Prince of Peace Himself. Jesus alone is our source of peace here on earth and the One we can turn to when life seems anything but peaceful.
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.
And lastly, the angels knew that God’s goodwill would be received by those of us who believe in His Son. They understood that Jesus is the gateway to the Father and because of His coming to earth the Way to eternal life is now opened. It is only because of Jesus that we are able to receive the goodwill of God and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
So, while you’re wrapping those presents, I encourage you to reflect with me on the angel’s joy and excitement over our greatest gift, Jesus. May the excitement of the season fill your heart this Christmas and always!
