Around the world, the Christmas trees are decorated with sparkling ornaments, the cookies are baking in the oven, and the stockings are hung by the fire with care. As the song says, it’s the most wonderful time of year!

Like everyone, I’m excited to see family and friends and take a break from the ordinary day-to-day to observe the holiday. And this Bible Verse from Luke 2 gives us three wonderful reasons to be excited to celebrate Christmas this year…

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!

Luke 2:13-14 New King James Version

What does Luke 2:14 mean?

You can almost hear the excitement ringing out as the angels proclaimed… Glory to God in the highest heaven!

But what were they so excited about?

The birth of baby Jesus! Of course!

Luke 2:14 captures the joyous proclamation of this angelic choir as they celebrated the birth of Jesus in the city of David. Their message was filled with good tidings of great joy for all people This verse reveals the deep truth of God’s glory being made manifest through the birth of His firstborn Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The glory of the Lord shines in this moment, as heaven and earth come together to celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promise of a Messiah. The angels’ song rings in the arrival of eternal peace through Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who came into the world to reconcile the broken relationship between God and humanity.

In this verse, the angels also speak of God’s good will toward human beings, signaling that the birth of Christ Jesus was an expression of God’s love and favor toward us. Through faith in Him, we receive the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.

Luke 2:14 reminds us that the birth of Jesus was more than just a historical date written down in a book so many years ago, it was a divine intervention that brought good hope to a sinful world. It points us to the gospel message that through Jesus, we can have internal peace in our hearts and the opportunity for reconciliation with God.

The beauty of this verse is in it’s timeless message, that God’s peace and goodwill, offered to us through His Son, Jesus, are available to the entire world, inviting everyone to experience the joy of salvation during this holiday season and all year long! So, let’s follow the angel’s exciting example by worshiping our Savior and celebrating His birth together.

How can we as Christians celebrate the joyous occasion of Christ’s birth? In this scripture, from Luke 2, the angels showed us three ways.

1. Give Glory to God

The angels understood the birth of Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s promise to give us the Messiah. And they knew one day this tiny baby would die on a cross to save us from our sins. Praising and glorifying God was a natural extension of recognizing His amazing gift to mankind.

The day we understand the Son of God, Jesus Christ, died for us personally and decide to accept Him as our Savior is cause for a huge celebration! And the Bible tells us the angels are in heaven celebrating the victory of Jesus every time someone is saved.

In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.

Luke 15:10 New Living Translation

As Christians, December 25th isn’t simply a day on the calendar, it’s a day for us to celebrate this extraordinary change in our lives. It’s more than a tradition and it’s bigger than the holiday season. Instead, it’s about remembering what Jesus did for us when He came to earth that joyful day. And giving glory to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15)

Because as the popular Christmas quote goes… Jesus is the reason for the season!

Let’s give glory to God and worship Him just like the angels did. Because when the angels declared glory to God in the highest at the birth of Jesus, they showed us the ultimate reason for celebration. Their joyful announcement invites us to glorify God not just as we celebrate the Christmas story, but every day of our lives. They remind us that everything we do should point to the glory of God no matter what day of the year it is. The birth of the Son of God wasn’t just a moment for the lowly shepherds to celebrate, it was a heavenly event, involving angelic forces rejoicing over the coming of Jesus to earth. This moment fulfilled the Word of God spoken in the Old Testament, and it set into motion the greatest gift of all, our salvation through the blood of the cross.

When we give glory to God, we’re acknowledging His great glory in our lives. The Holy Bible teaches us that, through Jesus, we can experience not only eternal peace but also the forgiveness of sins. This is why we celebrate Christmas, not for the decorations, the presents, or even the traditions, but to remember the good news of great joy that Jesus brought into the world that day.

As we reflect on this season, let’s sing praises and give thanks for the story of Jesus, our precious Savior who came to offer God’s favor and salvation to the entire world. May we glorify God not only at Christmas but every day!

2. Have Peace on Earth

The angels celebrated the gift of Jesus knowing with Him we have peace on earth from the Prince of Peace Himself.

In the Bible Verse from Isaiah 9, we learn this wonderful name of Jesus…

And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.

Isaiah 9:6-7

The baby born to save us is a prince unlike any other. Jesus is the Prince of Peace sent to give us peace on earth.

The Christmas season is super busy and often a little hectic. There’s so much to do in a short amount of time. Everything from shopping for gifts and wrapping them in pretty paper, to decorating the house with twinkly lights, to preparing everyone’s favorite dish for the holiday meal, peace may be the last thing on our to-do list. But the good news of great joy is that true peace is found in Christ, not in our circumstances. He gives us peace, real peace that stays with us year-round. He alone is our source of peace, and the One we can turn to when life seems anything but peaceful.

Christmas may only last for one day a year, but Jesus didn’t just come to give us peace for a day, He came to bring us peace that lasts forever. As we celebrate His birth, we can remember that this peace isn’t something we have to earn or strive for, it’s a gift, given freely to those of us who believe in Him. No matter how chaotic life may feel during this season, the forgiveness of sins and the promise of God’s good will through Jesus comforts our hearts and fills us with great joy.

Because of Jesus, we have true and lasting peace. And the Peace of Christ is a gift for us to share. During this holiday season, let’s embrace the peace of Christ and share it with others. Whether it’s through a kind word, a prayer, or simply a smile, we can spread the peace that Jesus brought to the whole world. After all, His peace is the best gift we can give, and it’s one that truly lasts! So, let’s have peace in our hearts and pass it around along with that cute Christmas cookie platter we all adore.

3. Show Goodwill to Men

The angels knew God’s goodwill would be received by those of us who believe in His Son. They rejoiced because they understood the magnitude of this special good will God showed through the birth of Christ Jesus. This goodwill is so much more than simple kindness, it’s the good pleasure of God, offering us a way back to Him through Jesus.

By coming to earth, Jesus became the gateway to eternal peace and reconciliation with God, something no amount of good deeds or following the Old Testament ceremonial law of Moses could ever accomplish. Try as we might, we just can’t save ourselves.

Jesus is the Way, the Only Way to Heaven. Through faith in Him and His loving sacrifice, we receive the goodwill of God, the forgiveness of sins, the free gift of grace, and the promise of eternity with Him in heaven.

Here’s how Jesus described it…

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6 New International Version

The angels sang the praise of Jesus, the Way to everlasting life because they knew the enormity of this ultimate gift of grace.

Without the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we wouldn’t have a Way to eternal life. And it all started with the first breath of baby Jesus. This is the gospel message, and sharing it with the whole world is the greatest gift we can give to someone who doesn’t know Jesus as their Savior. The truth of who the child Jesus is changes everything. And that’s the reason we celebrate Jesus’ birth each December.

During the Christmas season, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, it’s the perfect time to show God’s goodwill by sharing this good news of great joy with others. Whether it’s through a simple conversation, an invitation to church, or a small act of kindness, we can help others unwrap the gift of salvation that Jesus offers. Let’s show goodwill to men by spreading the joy and hope of the story of Jesus this Christmas, just as the angels did on that glorious night!

God’s Hand in the Christmas Story

The beauty of Christmas is that it’s a reflection of God’s hand at work in our lives. From the moment Jesus was born, God’s plan for salvation began to unfold. His love and goodwill were poured out on the earth in the form of a humble baby in a manger.

God’s hand can be seen in every part of the Christmas story, the angel of the Lord announcing the birth, the city of David where prophecy was fulfilled, and the shepherds who were the first to hear the good news of great joy that the Savior of the world was born. Each element of Jesus’ birth was part of God’s plan for our redemption, orchestrated by His hand from the beginning of time.

Even today, God’s hand continues to guide and protect us. As we celebrate this Christmas, let’s look for the ways God’s hand is moving in our own lives. Whether through answered prayers, moments of peace, or unexpected blessings, His hand is always at work.

The Real Reason We Celebrate Christmas

The real reason we celebrate Christmas goes beyond the twinkling lights, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, and joyfully wrapped presents. At the heart of it all is the everlasting love of God, who gave us the greatest gift we could ever receive, His firstborn Son, Jesus Christ. And the unimaginable love of Jesus who gave His own life as a sacrifice so that we could have eternal life. This gift of good hope and forgiveness of sins is available to all of us, and it’s a gift that never fades.

As we prepare for the Christmas season, let’s think about the people in our lives who still need to unwrap the gift of God’s love. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest message we can share, and the holiday season offers us the perfect opportunity to show others the glory of God through our words and actions.

So, while you’re busy wrapping up those Christmas presents, I encourage you to think of those on your list who may not know the joy of eternal peace in Christ. Ask God for the courage to share the good news of great joy with them, just as the angelic choir announced the birth of our Savior to the lowly shepherds. And reflect on the angel’s joy and excitement over our greatest gift, Jesus.

May the peace of Christ, and the excitement of the season inspire you to spread the real reason we celebrate Christmas with someone today!

Let the Joy of Christmas Fill Your Heart

The sparkle of lights, decorations on the tree, and festive cheer shared with loved ones are all wonderful, but the real joy of Christmas comes from knowing that God’s glory was revealed in the humble birth of Jesus. Because through Him, we have the promise of forgiveness of sins, eternal peace, and everlasting life.

This season, as you gather with family and friends to celebrate, may the Holy Spirit fill you with a joy that overflows into every part of your life. Let the good tidings of great joy the angels announced stir your heart and inspire you to share the gospel message with those around you. Whether through kind words, prayers, or acts of love, I pray these 3 Exciting Reasons to Celebrate Christmas will inspire you to spread the message of Christ’s birth and His everlasting love to the whole world this holiday season.

Let the true joy of Christmas fill your heart, as we remember the Lord Jesus Christ and His incredible gift of salvation this Christmas and every day of the year.
