You Are God's Masterpiece

Welcome to the final leg of our artistic journey of faith! If you missed the first two, The Master’s Hand, and God’s Muse, you can go back and read them from the beginning. See you when you get back…

Now the creative process begins…

A blank canvas stands on the easel.

Paint is mixed on the palette.

The muse is gracefully posed.

And the brushes are ready for the Master’s Hand.

The artist doesn’t hold back. He pours himself into the work knowing it will be a painstaking experience. But with hard work and determination, his greatest masterpiece will emerge.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

                                             Ephesians 2:10 NLT

This verse is clear… You are God’s Masterpiece!

A priceless work of art carefully planned out and made according to the Master’s design. Each brush stroke is inspired by His love and admiration for you.

Personally, it’s hard to see myself as a masterpiece. When I look in the mirror, I don’t see the same perfection I see on museum walls. Instead, I count every tiny flaw. And, believe me, there are a lot of them to choose from. So, I pick apart the masterpiece thinking I’m undeserving of the title.

Can you relate?

Comparison is hard too. In this social media obsessed world, all we see are the post worthy pictures of the perfect family vacation, the promotion at work, the shiny new car or house.

It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison trap. And it’s hard to understand how God could possibly say, “you are my masterpiece.”

But that’s exactly what you are…

It didn’t happen suddenly or accidentally. The creative process was followed, and the work completed.

It started with a blank canvas. The moment God spun the world into motion, His master plan began to take shape. The intimate details of your life were accounted for as He sketched the outline of your being, painted your portrait, and carefully feathered in the background. He poured Himself into you, and over time, created the masterpiece that is you.

It was a painstaking process. And the final brushstroke of pure genius came as the nails were driven into the Savior’s hands.

It was the hard work of Jesus on the cross that made you a new being. He gave the very best of Himself that day, knowing you would emerge as His greatest masterpiece!

Now let’s dig deeper into that by reading the same verse from Ephesians again, this time from the NKJV translation…

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

This translation says we are God’s workmanship. It refers to the idea of building a great structure, a piece of architecture.

In this version God is the Master craftsman, building us from the ground up, turning us into the architect’s vision of a grand palace.

What I love most about this verse is the phrase, created in Christ Jesus… It was His blood that was poured out for us, His blood that painted the picture of victory in us, and His blood that created the masterpiece! Can I get an Amen!?

And His blood wasn’t shed without a purpose, this verse continues… for good work which God prepared beforehand. Like any great masterpiece, whether it’s a painting or architecture, there is a reason behind the creation.

You can bet, God didn’t make you just so you could hang on a gallery wall and look pretty. You were created in Christ Jesus for good works. This is the vision behind the creation of the masterpiece. It is your purpose here on earth to do good work for the kingdom of God! Good works that God prepared just for you before you were ever born.

So, if you look in the mirror and wonder, why on earth did God create me in the first place…

Remember you are the work of the Master Craftsman. Your purpose is found in Him.

You are a completed work of art for the ages. You are loved and adored by your Artist and Creator. He has poured Himself into creating you, and He will continue to do so every day! All because you are His Masterpiece.
