The Christmas Story in the Bible

The birth of Jesus in the Bible is the greatest story ever told! And each year we celebrate this joyous event during Christmas time.

The cute ceramic nativity we set out on our tables represents that story.

The nativity story that changed history forever!

The shepherds who came to worship. The wise men who came bearing gifts. The angel announcing the birth of the Savior. The holy family, Mary and Joseph.

And most importantly, the Messiah Himself, the baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes and sleeping in the hay.

They all remind us of the Christmas story and the importance it has in our lives every day of the year.

But this time of year holds special meaning to believers. And reading the Christmas story is a wonderful way to celebrate our Savior.

So, let’s read these Christmas story Bible verses and answer the question… What verse is the Christmas story in the Bible?

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

                                                    Matthew 1:18

But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

                                                 Matthew 1:20 NKJV

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

                                               Matthew 1:21 NIV

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

                                                  Luke 2:7 KJV

For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

                                                  Luke 2:11

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!

                                               Luke 2:13-14

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

                                               Luke 2:15-16 NIV

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

                                               Matthew 2:9-10 KJV

And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.

                                               Luke 2:33 NKJV

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David because he belonged to the house and line of David.

                                               Luke 2:4 NIV

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

                                                Matthew 2:1-2 NKJV

And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

                                               Luke 2:8-10 ESV

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

                                                Matthew 2:11 NIV

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

                                              Luke 2:14 KJV

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

                                             Matthew 1:20 NIV

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

                                            Luke 2:10 NKJV

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

                                           Matthew 1:23 NKJV

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

                                            Luke 1:35 NIV

Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

                                           Luke 2:34-35 NKJV

“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

                                           Mark 11:10 NIV

“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

                                          Matthew 2:6 ESV

 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name.

                                          Luke 1:46-49 NIV

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,

The One to be Ruler in Israel,

Whose goings forth are from of old,

From everlasting.

                                                  Micah 5:2

Of the increase of His government and peace

There will be no end,

Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,

To order it and establish it with judgment and justice

From that time forward, even forever.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Therefore God, Your God has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

                                         Zechariah 9:9 KJV

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
