More Heartfelt Bible Verses about Love

The “L” word, LOVE.

We’re drawn in by the promise it provides…

A special someone to buy heart shaped boxes of candy and red roses for us. A partner to hold hands with through life’s up and downs. A better half of yourself to share those cherished memories with as you grow old together. And someone who is completely devoted to you.

Last week we looked at several Heartfelt Bible Verses about Love, if you missed it you can read them here.

As we discussed then, Biblical love is the foundation of our Christian faith. It defines who we are in Jesus and brings us together as the body of Christ. And it’s a promise of all God has in store for us.

God has a lot to say to us about love. His Word is a promise of His perfect love. And an offer to hold us close when life becomes too much.

Since we barely scratched the surface last week, I’d like to share More Heartfelt Bible Verses about Love with you today. Together, let’s continue reading the many scriptures that reveal God’s love for us and be drawn in by the promise they provide.

How God Loves Us

Each of these scriptures show us the depth of God’s devotion. He is completely unwaverinig in His affection for His children. No matter what we do, or how bad we mess up, our Heavenly Father promises to love us with an everlasting love.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

                                             Romans 5:8

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!

                                            1 John 3:1

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.

                                           Zephaniah 3:17

But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them

                                           Nehemiah 9:17

The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

                                           Jeremiah 31:3

How We Should Love

It’s not enough for us to be loved by God. As His children, our greatest desire should be to show His love to those who need it. And these verses give us some pretty amazing tips on how to model our love on God’s love and spread it around to eveyone we meet.

And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

                                              Ephesians 5:2

A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity.

                                             Proverbs 17:17

with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

                                              Ephesians 4:2-3

But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

                                             Luke 6:35

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

                                           Romans 13:8

We love Him because He first loved us.

                                            1 John 4:19

Psalm 18:1

The earth is filled with your love, Lord;

I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

                                         Psalm 89:2

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.

                                        Psalm 63:3

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You.

                                       Psalm 143:8

Heartfelt Bible Verses About Love

Heartfelt Bible Verses About Love

Love makes us who we are, it defines us as people. We all want to be loved and to give love. We love our family, our friends and even our pets. And they love us back. No matter what, we always return to the ones who love us and accept us for who we are. In that sense, love brings us together when everything else tries to tear us apart. This kind of love is a wonderful thing to have!

But the kind of love I’d like to share with you today is Biblical love. At the very core of Christianity is love. It is the foundation of our faith in Jesus. Love defines who we are in Christ and brings us together as believers. Without love there wouldn’t be a pathway to salvation or even a reason to believe. But praise Jesus! We are loved by God and fully accepted by Him! And most importantly, no matter what may happen, we can always return to Him because of love.

So, together let’s look at these heartfelt Bible Verses about love and discover how the different kinds of Biblical love impact our lives.

What is Biblical love?

Biblical love starts with God, Himself. He is the very definition of love! And His every characteristic is a picture of what true love is.

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

                                                        1 John 4:16

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

                                                       1 John 4:8

The Hallmarks of Christian Love

These verses are the hallmarks of Christian love. And it is true that God is each of these things listed below. But these scriptures also give us a way to recognize real love when we see it. They are the benchmarks that we should measure love by. So as we read them we can ask ourselves… Is this how I feel? Is this how I am treated or how I treat others? All good things to consider when we look at what Christian love is all about.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

 Love never fails.

                                                        1 Corinthians 13:4-8

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

                                                        1 Corinthians 13:13

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is #love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 #BibleVersesClick To Tweet

God’s love for us

God loves us! And He showed His love by sending His Son to save us. And by doing so, made a way for us to spend eternity in heaven with Him.

In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

                                                         1 John 4:9-10

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

                                                         John 3:16

The love of Jesus for us

Just as God the Father loves us, so does the Son. Jesus gave up His rightful place in heaven, willing came to earth and freely died in our place. And because Jesus has risen from the grave we can claim this sacrifice of His love as our own and have eternal salvation in Him.

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

                                                        John 15:13

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

                                                       Romans 8:35-39

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

                                                        John 15:9-10

A Command to love the Lord your God

God has commanded us to love Him. I know, none us likes to be commanded to do anything. But when we follow this commandment, God’s blessing is on us and we receive so much more than we could ever imagine!

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

                                                     Deuteronomy 6:5

But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

                                                    Joshua 22:5

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

                                                  Matthew 22:37-39

A New Commandment to love one another

We all need the love of Jesus. So, if we are truly His followers, then it makes perfect sense that we should show the love of Jesus to everyone around us. And as these next scriptures attest to, Jesus has given us a new commandment to do just that. And if we love Jesus, we will obey Him and show an unsaved world who He is through love.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

                                                     John 13:34-35

If you love Me, keep My commandments.

                                                    John 14:15

Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God.

                                                     1 John 4:7

Beloved let us #love one another, for love is of God. 1 John 4:7 #BibleVersesClick To Tweet

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

                                                    1 John 4:11

And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

                                                    1 Peter 4:8

We have barely scratched the surface of all that the Word of God has to say on the subject of love. But I pray that these heartfelt Bible verses about love have encouraged you to seek the love of Jesus in your life and to show His love to everyone you meet. His love is the greatest gift that any of us could ever receive. And the greatest gift that we could possibly give to so many around us. May your faith be strengthened by His love and grace always!

3 Ways to Grow in Grace

3 Ways to Grow in Grace

Grace is God’s love poured down on us. It’s a gift we don’t deserve, and no matter how hard we work, we can’t earn it.

Ephesians 2:8 tell us this simple truth…

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God

Grace through faith in Jesus saves us. But this only the beginning of a Christian’s salvation journey. So, what comes next?…

but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

                                                     2 Peter 3:18

This verse is about becoming a mature Christian. It’s continuing to learn the Bible, pray, and seek God’s guidance in our lives. Because we can always dig deeper, stretch farther, and grow a little more in God’s grace.

Just like a tree needs certain nutrients to turn from a tiny twig into a towering oak, we also need life sustaining truth to grow in the faith.

Today we’re looking at 3 Ways to Grow in Grace. Each one takes us closer to understanding our Lord, Jesus Christ. And combined they show us the depth of God’s grace toward us.

So, let’s jump in and discover how we can grow in grace and knowledge.

#1 Prepare the Soil

Let’s face it… We all start out with a little rocky terrain. For some of us, it’s because we’re new Christians, learning the ways of the Lord from the beginning. For the rest of us, it’s contentment, not wanting to push the boundaries of our daily lives. We feel like we’ve already made it and our relationship with God is good enough.

But to get to the next level of spiritual maturity we must plow the field and prepare the soil to receive the seed.

Sow for yourselves righteousness;
Reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the Lord,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

                                                   Hosea 10:12

We’ve all heard the term, “fallow ground”. But what is it?

Fallow ground is abandoned land. It’s been unused for so long it has become hard and riddled with weeds. For it to become useful again it must be worked. The weeds pulled, the clumps of dirt broken up, and the rocks removed.

Over time our hearts can become fallow ground. We go through the motions, attending church each week, but never actually moving forward in our relationship with God. We’re on a hamster wheel of spirituality, never getting where we want to go.

But God is calling us to a new and exciting place. A deeper relationship with Him!

It’s time for us to get off the hamster wheel and onto the plow! The first step is to break up the fallow ground in our lives by clearing our hearts of unused space and readying our minds to receive God’s Word.

#2 Water the Seed

We know from experience water is essential for anything to grow. And without it, all living things dry up and blow away.

So, it only makes sense that once we’ve plowed the field and planted the seed of God’s Word in our hearts, it needs to be watered before it can grow.

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

                                            Jeremiah 17:8

This is an image of a Christian’s life. We are the tree, planted by the Living Water of Jesus Christ. When we spread out our roots, He gives us all that we need to overcome the heat and bear fruit. It’s a stark contrast to the uselessness of fallow ground. The tree, us, is always useful to God. It is alive and vibrant, growing leaps and bounds above everything else. All because it is watered by the Living Water of the One who saves.

It’s true, we will always have difficulties, because life is hard sometimes. And this verse is not a promise that our lives will be easy. Instead it’s a promise that God will take care of us when our drought comes around.

If we want to be fruitful, it’s as simple as planting ourselves next to Jesus and allowing Him to water the seed of God’s grace in our lives.

#3 Let the “Sonshine” In

Nothing grows in darkness. Expect maybe a mushroom, and who wants to be a mushroom?

As our tree analogy continues, we see the need for a little sunshine to enter the picture. Without it our tree won’t have the proper nutrients to survive. It will become weak and turn a terrible, sickly shade of yellow.

This is true of our spiritual lives too.

In the beginning, when God created the world, He commanded the light to shine and separated day from night.

When we became Christians, again God commanded the light to shine by flipping the switch in our hearts. Out of the darkness we once where, the glorious light of the Son shone.

That’s the moment of salvation. The time when we acknowledged who Jesus is.

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

                                                    2 Corinthians 4:6

By letting the “Sonshine” of Jesus in, real growth and knowledge happens! Without that moment of light, our hearts and minds wouldn’t be changed. We wouldn’t be a new creation in Christ. That’s Pure, Simple, Truth, ya’ll.

And since we’re speaking the truth today, I’d like to add this to the conversation… It’s not enough for us to have “Sonshine” in our hearts. We need to pass it on. It’s contagious and once you have it, you want to give it away.

There’s a quote from C.S. Lewis that I absolutely love… Don’t shine so others can see you, shine so that through you others can see Him.

Once we have the knowledge of who Jesus is, it’s our job, our honor and privilege, to share that truth with everyone we meet. So, let’s shine bright and let others see the Sonshine in us!

I pray you will take these 3 Ways to Grow in Grace and seek a closer relationship with the Lord. Don’t be afraid to plow the field, water the seed, and let the Sonnshine in. Combined they will take you farther than you ever imagined as you grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
